Red River College Polytechnic - South Winnipeg
The Carpentry Certificate is a one-year program offered at RRC Polytech across multiple campuses, including Notre Dame, Peguis Fisher-River, and South Winnipeg. The program spans the Fall and Winter terms and includes a two-week Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) placement in an industry setting. While it is not an apprenticeship program, it may provide credit transfer opportunities toward apprenticeship training.
This program is designed to equip students with foundational carpentry skills from a Canadian industry perspective. The curriculum emphasizes safety, construction documents, framing, roofing, and surveying, preparing graduates for a range of entry-level carpentry tasks. Students share a common first term with the Cabinetry and Woodworking Certificate program, allowing flexibility to choose a specialization after completing the initial term.
A key component of the program is the two-week WIL placement, where students gain practical, on-the-job experience under the guidance of industry professionals. This hands-on exposure allows students to apply their training in a real work environment and better understand workplace expectations within the construction industry.
