Red River College Polytechnic - South Winnipeg
The Rehabilitation Assistant program prepares students to provide safe and effective rehabilitative care under the supervision of healthcare professionals such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. The curriculum is aligned with current healthcare practices and focuses on building the knowledge and skills required to support clients and their families in a variety of care settings.
Students receive hands-on training in areas such as anatomy, physiology, therapeutic techniques, and client communication. The program includes simulated rehabilitation scenarios to strengthen practical skills, with an emphasis on safety, mobility support, exercise programs, and assistance with daily living activities.
A key component of the program is two preceptor-led practicum placements, each six weeks in duration, where students gain real-world experience and apply their learning in clinical environments. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to work as part of a collaborative healthcare team, supporting clients in improving function, mobility, and overall quality of life.
