Overview

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with strong English-language skills. It provides additional support to immersive classes taught in English.

Students in the Academic Accelerator receive: • Appropriate support for academic and English-speaking needs • A full year’s worth of college credits • Access to courses exclusively for international students • Assistance with English vocabulary needed for classes • A mix of classes with both international and U.S. students

The Louisiana State University Computer Science undergraduate program, offered through the College of Engineering, offers a curriculum that allows students to take courses in core and applied areas of computer science, as well as engage in research, summer internships, and co-ops. Students can choose from four concentrations: • Software Engineering (SE) Concentration • Cloud Computing and Networking (CCN) Concentration • Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Concentration • Computer Science and Second Discipline Concentration

Upon graduation, students will demonstrate: • Ability to apply computing and mathematical knowledge • Problem analysis and solution identification • Design, implementation, and evaluation of computer-based systems • Effective teamwork • Understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues • Effective communication • Analysis of local and global computing impact • Recognition of the need for professional development • Use of current computing techniques, skills, and tools • Application of mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in system design • Design and development of software systems

The Data Science and Analytics concentration incorporates techniques from various fields to extract actionable intelligence from data. This area encompasses data management requirements, including “Big Data” for extremely large datasets.

Data scientists are employed by companies and organizations for tasks such as identifying consumer trends, military code breaking, improving processes, and analyzing sports team probabilities.
