Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Computer Science - Software Engineering

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with strong English-language skills. It supplements immersive classes taught in English with the appropriate level of support.

Students in the Academic Accelerator Program will receive: • Support tailored to their academic and English-speaking needs • A full year’s worth of college credits • Access to courses specifically for international students • Assistance with English-language vocabulary relevant to their classes • A mix of classes with both international and U.S. students

The Louisiana State University Computer Science undergraduate program is offered through the College of Engineering and provides students with a range of opportunities to take courses in core and applied areas of computer science, as well as engage in research, summer internships, and co-ops. Students can choose from four concentrations: • Software Engineering (SE) Concentration • Cloud Computing and Networking (CCN) Concentration • Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Concentration • Computer Science and Second Discipline Concentration

Upon graduation, students will demonstrate: • The ability to apply computing and mathematical knowledge effectively • The skills to analyze and solve computing problems • The capability to design, implement, and evaluate computer-based systems • Effective teamwork skills • Understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues in computing • Strong communication skills • Awareness of the global impact of computing • Commitment to continuing professional development • Proficiency in current computing techniques and tools • Application of mathematical foundations and computer science theory in system design • Utilization of design and development principles in software construction

Software Engineering focuses on applying engineering principles to software design, development, and maintenance. Subdisciplines include requirements engineering, software design, testing, maintenance, and quality management.

Emerging opportunities in software engineering include app development, digital media, mobile devices, entertainment software design, and gaming.
