Graduate Certificate - Museum and Gallery Studies (MUSM) (Co-op)

The Museum and Gallery Studies program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in museum and gallery work. Students develop capabilities in key technical areas common to museums and galleries, including conservation and collections management, exhibition design, public programming, interactive technology and administration.

Through a combination of engaging academic instruction and experiential learning opportunities, including technical practice and a co-op work placement, students expand their existing knowledge and gain an understanding of the legacy of museums and galleries while contributing to the continued development of the field. By connecting theory with practice, the program emphasizes curatorial sustainability, equity and diversity in curriculum and action, and collaborative approaches to problem-solving.

Students gain hands-on experience working with The Campus Gallery and Georgian College’s extensive art collection. They also network with museum and gallery professionals, historians and artists while creating off-site exhibitions in partnership with local cultural institutions.

Following the completion of coursework, students undertake a four-month co-op work placement. This component provides relevant workplace experience and prepares graduates for the next stages of their careers in museums and galleries.
