The Infections, Immunology, Virology, and Parasitology grouping at the university includes PhD and MRes courses in Immunology, Virology, Parasitology, and Microbiology. While the degree and research area are customized for each student, examples of research conducted in the Infections, Immunology, Virology, and Parasitology fields include the development of novel antifungals, genetic basis of resistance to antifungal drugs, discovery of interactions between bacterial and viral pathogens and their human hosts, and serological analysis for the Oxford vaccine trial using UoN-developed assays during the recent pandemic.
