Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) - Learning Disability Nursing (B761)

The University of Chester offers a dynamic and interactive program to become a registered learning disability nurse, addressing the evolving needs of health and social care. This course focuses on understanding and delivering holistic care for individuals with learning disabilities across all ages, empowering students to support their wellbeing and independence in a person-centred manner. A primary role of the learning disability nurse is to work in partnership with individuals and their families, from birth to late adulthood, in diverse settings. The course emphasizes promoting autonomy, supporting aspirations, and enabling individuals to take risks and make informed choices. In line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards, the program also develops skills to care for adults—including older people, those with mental health conditions, and children—broadening competencies across the nursing spectrum. Designed to meet current healthcare demands, the course is a foundation for compassionate, competent, and autonomous learning disability nursing practice.
