Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Art and Design with Creative Technologies
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The BA (Hons) interdisciplinary Art and Design degree is designed to reflect the evolving nature of the creative industries, where boundaries between disciplines are increasingly fluid. The course explores the intersection of art, design, and technology, supporting students in developing a flexible and future-focused creative practice.
Rather than focusing on a single discipline, the programme encourages an interdisciplinary approach, mirroring the ways in which contemporary creative studios operate. Students engage with a range of creative methods and emerging digital technologies, enabling them to explore new forms of expression and innovation.
The course places students at the centre of their learning, supporting the development of self-awareness, collaboration, and creative experimentation. Through making, questioning, and exploration, students are encouraged to define their own creative direction and career pathway.
An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, providing valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
The programme equips graduates with adaptable creative skills, interdisciplinary knowledge, and professional awareness, preparing them for a range of roles within the creative industries.
