Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Architecture
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Architecture degree presents architecture as a creative and socially responsive discipline, preparing students to become innovative thinkers and future professionals within the field. The course encourages a forward-thinking approach, supporting the development of designers who can challenge conventions and contribute to the future of architectural practice.
Architecture is explored as both a technical and imaginative process, bringing together elements of art, history, engineering, and science to shape the spaces people inhabit. The programme emphasises the role of architecture in influencing how individuals live, interact, and experience the built environment.
Delivered in specialist facilities at the City Centre Campus, the course is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Successful completion provides exemption from the RIBA Part 1 Prescribed Examination. To qualify as a registered architect in the UK, graduates must also complete an ARB-accredited master’s degree and a period of professional practice, meeting the required competency standards.
An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable experience within architectural practice. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
The programme equips graduates with the creative, technical, and professional foundations required to progress within the architecture profession and related fields.
