Overview

This course is intended for committed students interested in a career in the dance and performing arts industry. Learners will develop their technique and performance skills as well as enhance creativity. Students will study units and develop technical grounding in Contemporary Dance techniques, Jazz and urban dance forms and will have the opportunity to perform in each of these styles to live audiences and within performance projects in both the professional centre stage theatre as well as external performance venues.

A large part of the course is aimed at encouraging ownership of practical work and is designed to be learner-led in terms of project work. Students will also learn the fundamentals of choreography and have the chance to create work for both studio and live performance. Assessment is largely through practical work, however students will also be required to produce written work, reviews, log books, presentations and evaluations and complete an externally assessed examination.

Assessment is largely through practical work, however students will also be required to produce written work, reviews, log books, research portfolios, presentations and evaluations and complete both internal and external assessment alongside an externally assessed examination. Dance learners will require a uniform of all-black for technique and performances. Personalized t-shirts and hoodies can be bought after starting the course. Various trips will be planned throughout the year to support units of study.
