Master of Laws (LLM) - International Law (with Placement Year)

The International Law LLM examines current developments in international law, including the impact of geopolitical tensions on international agreements, sanctions on global markets, and issues relating to digitalisation, climate change, and sustainability. Students study public international law alongside contemporary topics such as international relations, human rights, and international trade, while learning to apply legal principles within real-world contexts. They also complete an independent legal project in their chosen specialism to develop advanced expertise in international law. The course combines academic study with practical skill development. Through activities such as mooting, client interviewing, and pro bono work, students strengthen their legal research, problem-solving, critical analysis, and communication skills. Studying in Brighton also provides access to the city's established legal community, while its proximity to London offers opportunities to connect with institutions and organisations involved in international legal and commercial developments. Students may undertake an industry placement or research year to gain valuable professional or academic experience. The two-year study option also enables eligible international students to study in the UK for two years instead of one, supporting eligibility for the UK Graduate Route.
