Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Filmmaking

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking degree with Foundation Year is delivered over four years, beginning with a Foundation Year that provides a broad programme of study to support progression onto the full degree. Students are required to pass all Foundation Year modules to continue to the next stage. The course is practice-based and industry-focused, enabling students to develop both creative and technical skills across a wide range of filmmaking practices, supported by experienced practitioners and scholars.

A distinctive feature of the course is its emphasis on the language of cinema, exploring how elements such as image, sound, editing, performance, and storytelling combine to shape meaning and audience experience. Through hands-on learning in purpose-built studios, sound stages, and on location, students build practical skills, confidence, and the ability to work effectively within a filmmaking team.

The course encourages exploration of different forms of film production, including narrative, documentary, and experimental approaches. Through a combination of practical projects and critical reflection, students develop their creative voice alongside the professional skills and experience required for careers in the screen industries.
