Sheffield Hallam University - Collegiate

What you will study

The International Foundation Year in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a structured pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport degree. The programme develops foundational knowledge relevant to health, life sciences, physical activity and sport while strengthening the academic skills required for undergraduate study. Students explore scientific and health-related concepts and develop essential skills in research, academic writing, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning. The programme also helps students adapt to the UK higher education environment and understand university teaching, learning and assessment expectations. Through structured academic support, students can build confidence and prepare for further study in physical education and school sport. After successfully completing the foundation stage and meeting the required progression criteria, students can progress to the BSc (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport degree. The undergraduate programme can provide opportunities to explore physical education, school sport, coaching, physical activity, health and youth development. Students can develop an understanding of how physical activity can contribute to children's health, wellbeing, confidence and development while building communication and leadership skills. This pathway is suitable for international students interested in sport and education who want to develop skills relevant to working with children and young people in schools, sports organisations and related physical activity environments.
