Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Game Art
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
This Game Art degree provides a broad foundation in the key areas of game development, including game art, design, technology, and asset production, before allowing students to specialise in advanced 3D asset creation and games production.
At the end of the first year, students can choose between two pathways. The Game Art pathway focuses on developing skills in concept design, sculpting, worldbuilding, and working within asset production pipelines. The Game Technical Art pathway emphasises areas such as motion capture, rigging, tool development, and graphics shaders. Completion of each pathway leads to a համապատասխան named award reflecting the chosen specialism.
Throughout the course, students work on creative and technical projects designed to prepare them for a range of careers within the games and wider entertainment industries. Opportunities to collaborate with peers and engage with industry professionals help students build a portfolio that showcases their skills to potential employers.
Students have access to specialist digital art studios equipped with high-performance workstations, graphics tablets, advanced 3D facilities, and industry-standard software such as Autodesk Maya and Adobe Creative Cloud. These facilities are designed to replicate professional studio environments, supporting the development of industry-relevant skills.
An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, providing an opportunity to gain practical experience within the industry. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
The programme equips graduates with a combination of creative, technical, and professional skills, preparing them for roles in game art and related fields.
