Master of Arts - Acting

Birmingham City University (BCU)

What you will study

The MA Acting course is designed for graduates seeking to undertake advanced study in order to deepen their knowledge and broaden their experience of acting, with the aim of pursuing a professional acting career upon graduation.

The programme aims to develop independently minded performers and practitioners who can apply a range of methodologies to their creative work. It focuses on cultivating forward-thinking artists who are capable of generating their own employment opportunities, both by securing work and creating it.

Structured as a laboratory-style programme, it offers students opportunities to enhance their understanding and experience of acting through engagement with the repertoire of British and European traditions. Students work as part of an acting company, with each exercise, workshop, and production designed to challenge them and progressively develop the imaginative, intellectual, and creative skills required for professional practice.

The course is delivered following a conservatoire model, involving intensive, practice-based training of at least thirty to forty hours per week over a minimum of thirty weeks per year. This approach supports the development of the intellectual, imaginative, and physical skills essential to the professional actor.
