Masters by Research - Computing

The MRes Computing is a research-focused postgraduate programme designed to develop advanced methodological skills and expertise in emerging areas of computing. It provides rigorous training in computational research methods, research design, and new technologies, enabling students to undertake independent inquiry with strong methodological foundations and practical research experience.

The programme combines advanced research training with applications relevant to industry, supporting the development of skills in computational methodologies, problem-solving, and technology evaluation. Its flexible structure allows students to tailor their studies to specific research interests within rapidly evolving fields.

Areas of specialisation include artificial intelligence, encompassing machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision; data science and big data, including data analytics, databases, web and social media intelligence, and distributed systems; cybersecurity and privacy, covering ethical hacking, cyber-physical systems, and information security governance; and human-computer interaction, focusing on human-centred design, immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, and accessibility and assistive technologies.
