Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Marketing
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Marketing degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in a fast-paced and competitive business environment, where attracting and retaining customers is essential. As marketing continues to evolve alongside technological advancements and changing consumer behaviour, the course prepares students to identify opportunities, drive growth, and maintain business relevance.
Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the programme combines theoretical understanding with real-world application, enabling students to develop both professional expertise and the personal skills required by employers. A strong focus is placed on employability, sustainability, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, simulation, and data analytics, ensuring graduates are adaptable, innovative, and ready to contribute effectively in modern workplaces.
A key feature of the course is the opportunity to work with The Link Agency, a student-led, in-house marketing agency, where students gain hands-on experience by delivering live projects for real clients. Previous clients have included Bullring Shopping Centre, Acorns Children’s Hospice, and Solihull Moors FC.
Throughout the programme, students engage in practical learning through live campaigns, which may involve product launches, rebranding strategies, event promotion, or social media optimisation. Assessment is primarily based on coursework and project work, allowing students to demonstrate their skills through real-world applications rather than traditional examinations.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in The Pitch, a national competition organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), where they apply their academic knowledge and creativity to real marketing challenges, further enhancing their employability.
The course includes an optional professional placement year, offering students the chance to gain valuable industry experience after their second year. With support from the university’s careers services and employer networks, students can secure placements aligned with their career goals and transfer to the placement version of the course once a suitable opportunity is obtained.
