Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Public Health
Canterbury Christ Church University
What you will study
The course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability to work in public health settings, and the wider health and wellbeing economy. It will provide students with knowledge about how health is created and influenced in the settings of people's daily lives, holistically exploring theoretical constructs of health, and a range of health improvement and protective measures, in addition to sustainability, climate change, and policy. This course aims to provide students with work-related experiences. As graduates, they will have the foundational knowledge required to address future health-needs with creativity, innovation, and resilience. The University also offer three unique routes within this degree, which allows students opportunity to combine public health with management, digital health, and the arts, providing them with learning from two academic disciplines. Public health covers the theory and practice of preventing disease and promoting good health and wellbeing. It does this through specific actions and interventions, planned health provision, policies, and legislation. It can target or help individuals but more often is delivered at population level, for example in a specific geographical region or for a specific group or community. The course will, therefore, provide students with an in-depth understanding of the field of public health. Throughout this degree there will be numerous opportunities to understand the variety and nuance of public health practice through class discussions, case-studies, work-related experiences, and assessments. Whilst studying this degree students will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal strengths and values in a supportive environment that will assist them in planning for their studies and prepare them for their future career.
