Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Architecture
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Architecture degree presents architecture as a socially engaged and forward-thinking discipline, focused on shaping spaces that respond to human needs, cultural contexts, and future challenges. The course brings together elements of art, history, engineering, and science, encouraging students to explore architecture as both a practical and imaginative process that influences how people live, interact, and experience the world.
Delivered at Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus in the Parkside Building, the course is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and successful completion provides exemption from the RIBA Part 1 prescribed examination. Students who wish to become registered architects in the UK will need to continue their studies with an ARB-accredited master’s qualification and complete the required professional practice experience.
The programme emphasises the study of urban environments, using Birmingham’s diverse architecture as a starting point to explore neighbourhoods, cities, and wider global contexts. Students develop design, research, and technical skills while building professional connections through links with industry, including RIBA West Midlands and Birmingham City Council. Throughout the course, students also create a portfolio of work, developing an online presence that supports future employment and career progression.
