Master of Arts - Education

Canterbury Christ Church University

What you will study

Being curious and questioning is the starting premise for the MA Education. This course starts with fundamental questions about learning and seeks to examine the complexity of a basic human right; the right to an education. The course challenges students to reflect and review values and philosophies of education and learning drawing upon their own practice. Criticality and self-reflection as key learning attributes.

This course is for those interested and passionate about education and learning and who are committed to adopting a questioning approach. Students may be in a professional role working in school or educational setting or whose work involves a substantial component of the design and delivery of training within their organisation. Students may be at the beginning of their career, looking forward, or in a more established leadership role. A student may be a volunteer working in an education setting, or in a support role.

The core modules (common across all routes) give students the opportunity to gain insights into the critical educational issues of the day and to develop key postgraduate academic skills. The specialist modules reflect and incorporate the expertise of the teaching team in education research and scholarship. From the first module (Developing Criticality) through to the last (Dissertation) the aim is to support students in developing their knowledge and skills in relation to their professional and/or personal interests.

This course will engage students with theories about learning for adults and children and will provide students with opportunities to critically reflect on their role as an educator, as a leader, as a stakeholder in the provision of learning. Critical thinking, research and evidence informed practice, reflection and review are embedded in all the areas of study.
