Overview

The Human Resources Management Diploma will provide students with the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of human resources management topics to become effective supervisors, managers or Human Resource professional. The Human Resources Management Diploma program explores how human resources (HR) professionals deal with the management of an organization’s workforce: from the most junior member of staff to the chief executive. The focus of the Human Resources Management Diploma program is on HR skills that build effective relationships at all levels of the organization. During the program, students will explore several important topics, including human resources development, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, cultural diversity, labor relations and occupational health and safety. Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to: • Work in a variety of human resource positions and be able to assume greater levels of responsibility as they grow in their human resource capability. • Understand and comply with the employer's legislative and legal obligations including workplace health and safety regulation, the Worker's Compensation Act, payroll compliance legislation, and employment standards. • Conduct organizational needs assessments, analyze and modify organizational staff development plans and develop effective recruitment strategies to attract talent that satisfies the organizational objectives. • Foster a work environment that promotes productivity and employee satisfaction. • Evaluate performance and communicate performance issues in a manner that encourages responsible and corrective action and manage disciplinary action proactively and thoroughly. • Understand the elements of a total compensation package that align with an organizational recruitment and retention strategy, develop compensation policies and procedures, procure benefits, and analyze employee and organizational pension requirements. • Evaluate core processes in human resources practices associated with strategic planning, acquisition and development, utilization of human resources, establishment and improvement of labour and employee relations, and compensation and administration issues. • Promote the best human resources practices in an organization. • Contribute to the monitoring of health and safety in the workplace. • Analyze diverse forms of adaptation to a changing environment and implement change in a logical and planned way. • Define implementation strategies for job redesign and work re-organization. • Encourage an approach to the practice of human resource management that is proactive and thoughtful rather than reactive.
