Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Economics

The BSc (Hons) Economics degree takes an applied approach to the study of economics, preparing students for careers as economists and for a wide range of roles across sectors influenced by economic activity. Graduates may pursue opportunities in industries such as government, banking, pharmaceuticals, logistics, accounting, manufacturing, and construction.

Economics is a key social science that addresses major global challenges, including inequality, environmental sustainability, and economic policy. The subject also intersects with other social sciences and humanities, while playing an important role in understanding business operations, organisational behaviour, and strategic decision-making.

The course adopts a pluralist approach to teaching, encouraging students to engage with a range of economic theories and perspectives. This approach supports a deeper understanding of how different ideas can be applied to real-world issues and professional contexts.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, providing valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
