Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Social Policy and Theology (VL64)
Liverpool Hope University - Hope Park
What you will study
Social Policy explores the ways in which welfare provision is delivered in society, exploring who is eligible for support and who provides it. Liverpool Hope University's Social Policy degree is multidisciplinary in its approach and draws on ideas from sociology, economics, politics and geography. It explores issues such as inequality, ill health and wellbeing, child welfare, employment and unemployment, educational opportunities, disability, homelessness, family policies, mental health, globalization, crime and immigration.
The degree draws on an experienced team of lecturers who are published in the social sciences and are experts in social policy. The School is also a member of the national network of Social Policy course providers and benefits from engagement with national subject debates. There are fieldtrips to enhance students' learning, and the university also has annual research days where leading academics, civil servants and politicians come to talk about various social problems and social issues.
Across 2,000 years, the Christian tradition has provoked an immense wealth of theological ideas, has adapted itself to many cultural forms and has shaped human minds and events. This degree offers students the opportunity to study Christianity from a number of perspectives – historical, doctrinal, pastoral and contextual – so that they will acquire expertise in finding their way through this complex and rich field of study.
The degree includes the academic study of the Christian Bible and embodies the university's commitment to take faith seriously, whilst at the same time to be intellectually stretching, stimulating and challenging. The teaching staff in the Department represent a broad range of Christian traditions, and are all published experts in their own particular fields.
By exploring the textual, historical, political and philosophical aspects of theology, Liverpool Hope University's provision in this area provides students with a holistic and in-depth appreciation of the subject.
