Master of Science - Medical Imaging Technology

The MSc Medical Imaging Technology is designed to respond to the rapid advancement of imaging technologies by preparing graduates for careers in healthcare and research. It equips students from diverse backgrounds, including engineering, biomedical engineering, and life sciences, with the knowledge and technical skills required to improve imaging practices and patient outcomes.

The course integrates disciplines such as physics, mathematics, computer science, biomedical engineering, biology, and clinical medicine. This multidisciplinary approach supports the development of expertise in engineering design, medical imaging technologies, and the clinical environment.

Students benefit from teaching delivered by internationally recognised researchers, alongside input from guest lecturers and collaboration with medical imaging technology SMEs and NHS Trust partners. The programme offers a range of optional modules, allowing students to specialise in areas aligned with their interests and career goals.

The course includes both taught components and a substantial research project, enabling students to develop the skills required for careers in clinical practice, research, or technical development. A key element is the Professional Project, an independent research study that demonstrates the student’s knowledge and practical capabilities in medical imaging technology.

Employability is embedded throughout the programme, with a strong focus on developing transferable skills alongside subject-specific expertise, preparing graduates for a wide range of roles within healthcare, scientific research, and technology development.
