What you will study

The building surveying MSc degree has been mapped to the requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and is are seeking accreditation from this key professional body. Many other courses within London Met’s School of the Built Environment are already accredited by RICS.

The Building Surveying MSc has been designed with industry professionals to cover all topics relevant to the role of a chartered surveyor. Throughout this course, students will apply their knowledge to real life situations, complimented with site visits, guest lecturers and other opportunities to engage with industry professionals and employers. They will also be encouraged to become a student member of one or more professional bodies during their studies.

The academic team on the building surveying master's course includes members of professional bodies, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Association of Project Managers (APM). Through our close connections with both industry and the professional bodies, students will not only access important industry insights, but also build up connections for prospective future employment.

In their studies students will develop excellent communication skills and have the opportunity to work with industry-standard technology and equipment. Within the School of the Built Environment, the facilities include materials testing and computer labs with specialist software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project and Primavera.

A 60 credit capstone applied research project on a relevant contemporary topic will provide students with an opportunity to research an area of particular interest to them.
