What you will study
The International MBA programme in Birmingham is designed to provide students with a global perspective on management, preparing them to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing international business environment. It recognises the need for future managers to adopt flexible approaches to thinking and behaviour in order to succeed in increasingly dynamic and unpredictable markets. The programme explores the evolving nature of global business and equips students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset required to operate effectively across different sectors and countries. It also focuses on developing leadership capabilities, enabling graduates to lead organisations in a wide range of contexts. Combining academic rigour with practical skill development, the course is tailored to meet the needs of contemporary international businesses. It places strong emphasis on employability, helping students build communication, interpersonal, analytical, and strategic thinking skills, alongside creative problem-solving and research capabilities. Graduates are equipped with a broad understanding of key business areas including strategy, marketing, leadership, finance, global human resource management, international business, entrepreneurship, operations and project management. The course also supports entrepreneurial ambitions, offering opportunities to develop and test business ideas in a supportive environment. Students benefit from studying within a diverse international community and from strong industry links, including company visits, sponsored study trips, and internship opportunities that provide valuable real-world experience. A professional placement is available, allowing students to spend 20 weeks with an employer after completing their taught modules. This placement helps students demonstrate professional skills, behaviours, and workplace readiness for the postgraduate job market. Students are responsible for securing a placement with support from the University’s careers services and employer networks. If a placement is not secured, students will continue on the standard version of the course. It should be noted that placements are competitive and employer-led, and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
