The Engineering postgraduate research programme offers a high-quality environment for advanced study, supported by internationally recognised academic staff, modern facilities, and a diverse and collaborative research community. The School is known for its strong multidisciplinary approach and organises its research across key priority areas, including advanced manufacturing, civil infrastructure, compound semiconductors, engineering for health, and sustainable energy.

The programme provides opportunities to undertake a MPhil over one year with a focus on developing advanced research skills, methodological expertise, and critical thinking. Students are guided in producing high-quality research outputs, culminating in a substantial thesis that demonstrates original contribution and academic rigour.

Students benefit from a supportive research culture, access to state-of-the-art laboratories and computational resources, and strong links with industry, research organisations, and other institutions. Additional opportunities include teaching and demonstrating roles within undergraduate programmes, as well as access to a range of funded studentships. The School’s strong research profile and significant external funding further enhance the resources and opportunities available to postgraduate researchers.
