Postgraduate Certificate in Education - PGCE Primary (7-11) (Key Stage 2)
London Metropolitan University - Holloway
What you will study
The Primary (7-11) (Key Stage 2) PGCE will equip students to become a specialist teacher of seven to 11-year-olds.
Students will join a powerful partnership of diverse teachers and schools that focuses on teaching in multicultural environments, which is ideal if students want to become a teacher in a city.
This course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which will allow graduates to work as a teacher in primary education settings.
The modules will develop students' understanding of the role of a teacher. During the lectures and seminars students will adopt a critical approach to evaluate pedagogical traditions, as well as the curriculum and children’s rights. Students will also learn about how they can use and undertake research to engage with issues in education.
This knowledge will be supplemented by practical experience as students will undertake school placements of 11 and 13 weeks, allowing them to reflect on theory and see its development in the real world. During these placements students will receive continuous support from tutors and school-based mentors.
On completion of this course graduates acquire the necessary understanding and experience required to become an effective teacher and to plan, deliver and evaluate the curriculum.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
