Bachelor of Science - Engineering Physics (Optional Co-op)
University of New Brunswick - Fredericton
What you will study
The Engineering Physics program at the University of New Brunswick explores the integrated disciplines of physics and engineering. This field is rooted in applied physics with a focus on research, design, and development to address modern challenges. Engineering Physics bridges the gap between theoretical science and practical engineering by teaching students to utilize physics to tackle emerging engineering problems and to apply engineering solutions to fundamental scientific questions. Graduates from this program receive a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics (BScEP).
The degree is jointly administered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Science. Students can choose between two distinct streams: Space Systems Engineering, which includes topics such as spacecraft design, radar, and satellite communication; and Optical Engineering, where students learn about lasers, photonic systems, and fiber-optic communication.
Completion of the Engineering Physics degree programs fulfills the academic requirements for licensure as a professional engineer in Canada. The BScEP is designed as a four-year program (totaling 160 credit hours), or five years if completed in conjunction with the Co-op Program. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Co-op Program, as the practical experience gained is considered a valuable component of an Engineering Physics education.
