Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The MSc User Experience Design programme is designed for graduates from a wide range of academic backgrounds who wish to develop the skills needed to create innovative, inclusive, and forward-thinking user experiences across multiple platforms and channels. The course encourages critical thinking, collaborative working, and exploration of the evolving possibilities within design.
Students gain a combination of creative, technical, and research-driven skills through modules covering user-centred and visual design, front-end development, accessibility, research methods, usability testing, and immersive technologies. Teaching is supported by academics, researchers, and industry professionals who bring practical insights and current industry perspectives into the learning experience.
The programme is open to both technical and non-technical graduates with an interest in specialising in User Experience (UX) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Core areas of study include interaction design, focusing on human-centred methods and techniques; front-end development using industry-standard tools and frameworks; visual design for creating clear and effective interfaces; accessibility and inclusive design principles; and research and user testing, including the planning, execution, and analysis of user evaluations.
Students also explore advanced and immersive technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, haptic systems, eye-tracking, and AI-enhanced interaction, preparing them to design for emerging digital environments.
