Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Media Production

The BA (Hons) Media Production degree is designed to prepare students for careers in the media industry by developing creative, critical, and adaptable content creators. The programme focuses on producing content across a range of platforms, including television, radio, podcasting, online media, social media, and emerging digital formats.

Delivered by an experienced team of academic staff and industry professionals, the course combines technical training with editorial and storytelling skills. Students learn how to create engaging content for different audiences while gaining insight into current industry practices. Opportunities to engage with guest speakers and industry experts further support professional development and networking.

Through research-led teaching, students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard television and radio studios. They develop practical skills in audio recording, video production, and editing, while also learning how to work collaboratively and understand the different roles involved in media production.

The course also emphasises the importance of idea development and pitching, alongside an awareness of sustainability and ethical considerations within the media industry. These elements help students build both creative and professional capabilities.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
