Bachelor of Laws - Law - Sociology

Canterbury Christ Church University

What you will study

The legal profession is well respected and a career in this field is considered by many to be highly prestigious. It therefore requires professionals with excellent academic ability and a strong work ethic. By studying Law with Sociology, students can gain a sound understanding of law while furthering their knowledge of sociology.

Students will be challenged to develop both academically and professionally through a combination of theoretical learning and practical skills development. Students will learn in a supportive, collaborative and friendly community environment.

During the course, students will develop a critical understanding of the main principles, themes and methods of law so that they:

• Become a conscious legal professional. • Acquire and apply their critical mind to the evaluation and appreciation of contemporary socio-legal issues. • Experience practical learning as part of the legal education experience.

Throughout the course, students will develop transferable skills that will be essential as they embark on a professional career. Students will build their confidence and abilities in communication, research, evaluation, critical judgement, time management, team working, and meeting tight deadlines. The University will also support students with specialist training in areas such as writing and advocacy skills, and faculty will help to prepare students for the next steps in their career, for example by doing one-to-one mock interview sessions.
