Master of Arts - International Human Resource Management

Birmingham City University (BCU)

What you will study

The International Human Resource Management Master’s course is approved and recognised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). It is designed for individuals who are currently working, or aspiring to work, at a strategic level in HR, offering both a university qualification and a pathway to professional CIPD membership.

Available in both full-time and part-time modes, the course supports career progression in human resources. On successful completion, graduates are awarded Associate CIPD membership, with the opportunity to progress to Chartered Member status subject to relevant professional experience and active CIPD membership.

The programme is delivered by an experienced teaching team with both academic expertise and practical HR experience. Learning is interactive, incorporating case studies, group work, and role-playing activities to develop practical skills. Guest speakers from industry also contribute to the delivery of key modules.

Graduates of the course are equipped to make a meaningful contribution within HR roles, having developed both core knowledge and the professional skills required to operate as strategic partners within organisations. The course also supports progression toward CIPD Chartered status, the most widely recognised professional accreditation in the HR field.

Students gain a critical understanding of the international context in which organisations operate and the implications for human resource management. The programme explores how globalisation influences HR strategy and practice, including areas such as managing and leading expatriate employees.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to reflect on their personal and professional development, helping them demonstrate the knowledge, behaviours, and competencies required to build organisational commitment and effectively engage stakeholders.
