Master of Science - Digital Transformation
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The Digital Transformation programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to understand and manage the complex relationships between people, information, processes, and technology. It prepares graduates to support organisations in leveraging digital innovation to drive transformation, improve performance, and operate effectively within an inclusive digital society.
The course develops a multi-dimensional skillset covering key areas of digital transformation. Students learn how to create strategic IS/IT plans aligned with business needs, manage enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, and SCM to enhance organisational performance, and analyse existing IT infrastructures to design and implement technology solutions, including legacy system migration. The programme also addresses digital change management, focusing on socio-technical challenges and the use of agile approaches to ensure technology solutions meet business requirements.
In addition, students gain expertise in business intelligence and technology entrepreneurship, including the use of data visualisation tools to analyse complex datasets and support informed decision-making. The course also covers principles of project management, enabling students to deliver projects effectively within scope, time, budget, and performance expectations.
A key component of the programme is the individual Master’s project, which may be practice-based in collaboration with an organisation or research-focused within a specialist research group. This project allows students to apply their multidisciplinary knowledge and skills to develop innovative solutions to real-world digital transformation challenges.
