This Master's degree is designed for teachers and language professionals to learn how to teach the English language. The course is also suitable if students don't have any teaching experience.
London Metropolitan University has a diverse cohort so students will benefit from a varied learning experience. Students will explore new theories and conversation around language, teaching languages and learning in various social and educational environments.
Students will explore language pedagogy, linguistics, sociolinguistics in relation to theory and practice on this English Language Teaching MA. Students will also learn about topics such as the psychology of language and language testing.
Students will develop the skills needed to become an employable language teacher, policy maker, educator or researcher. On this course, students will take part in discussions on language, undertake reading and be supported through research, plus students will have the opportunity to go into schools and understand the English language teaching process.
The teaching team are experienced practitioners who have published work and research in the sector. Research topics have included the processes of second language learning and teaching and English as a second language and English as a foreign language in higher education.
This Master's degree explores the sociocultural, political, economic and cultural aspects of how the English language is learned, taught and used worldwide.
The reflexive and reflective element of this course aims to improve in students' practice by encouraging them to think of themselves as a global language professional.
There are no exams. Students will be assessed through a variety of methods including coursework, essays, presentations, research and a final dissertation.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
