Overview

The MSc Social Science Research Methods provides advanced training in research methods across the social sciences. The program has ESRC recognition and meets the training requirements for ESRC PhD funding. Extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary study, applying social research expertise for career development, and pursuing specific areas of interest at the postgraduate level are offered.

Students are equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge on constructing effective research studies, various data collection methods, and analyzing social scientific data. The program also introduces the political and ethical frameworks of social science research and the dissemination of research results.

The Social Work pathway within the School of Social Sciences has a strong research track record. Through the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE) and the center for the Development, Evaluation, Complexity and Implementation in Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer), the school offers specialized teaching to enhance students' understanding and capability in researching social care.
