Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Computing (G401)

The Computing BSc (Hons) course is a professionally-focused degree, designed to equip students with skills relevant to the industry. They'll learn the basics of commercial applications and programming skills sought by employers, as well as specialist topics of their choosing. There will also be opportunities to complete placements in the industry as part of the studies. On graduating, students will be eligible to apply for Membership of the British Computer Society (MBCS). The Computing degree has been accredited with full CITP status by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. This accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. As a graduate of this course, accreditation will also entitle students to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.

With professional accreditation from the British Computer Society, this career-focused course is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills that meet the needs of the computing industry. Students will learn the fundamentals of software development, such as application development, objective-oriented programming (eg Java and C#) and database development. Students will have the option to specialise in fascinating areas such as artificial intelligence, ethics or computer law. Students will develop their IT proficiency, problem-solving skills and learn to apply this knowledge to real-life situations. Throughout the course, students will focus on sought after skills that are required by employers, such us unified modelling language and ASP.NET. Students will also use state-of-the-art commercial software tools, gaining key technical skills that are in high demand throughout the industry. In addition to the team of experienced teaching staff, students will have the opportunity to hear from industry experts. The Vice President of the multi-national company Telefonica has previously given a talk to students. Some of London Metropolitan University's ex-students working in industry will also be invited to share their working experiences. An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
