What you will study
The BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue a career within the creative industries. The course supports students in bringing their ideas to life through a combination of creative exploration, technical development, and critical thinking.
Students are guided by experienced academic staff, developing a range of design approaches and problem-solving techniques that prepare them for work in a dynamic and evolving field. The programme combines practical and intellectual skill development, ensuring graduates are equipped to respond to professional challenges.
In the first year, students focus on creative experimentation, building core design skills and an understanding of fundamental principles and practices. The second year introduces opportunities to work on live briefs, providing experience of real-world projects while advancing creative and technical abilities. In the final year, students develop independence in their practice, refining their critical approach and preparing for entry into the creative industries.
An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
The programme equips graduates with the creative, technical, and professional skills required for careers in graphic design and related fields.
