Sheffield Hallam University - Collegiate
What you will study
The International Foundation Year in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a structured pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching degree. The programme develops foundational knowledge in health and life sciences while introducing students to concepts relevant to sport, physical activity and human performance. Students develop essential academic skills including research, academic writing, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning while preparing for the expectations of UK higher education. The programme also helps students understand university teaching, learning and assessment methods and provides academic support throughout their studies. Following successful completion of the foundation stage and meeting the required progression criteria, students can progress to the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching degree. The undergraduate programme can provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills related to coaching practice, athlete development, training, performance, leadership and effective communication. Students can explore how coaching approaches can be adapted to different individuals, teams and sporting environments while developing an understanding of physical activity and performance. This pathway is suitable for international students who are passionate about sport and interested in coaching, athlete development and sports participation. It provides additional academic preparation before undergraduate study and can support future opportunities in sports coaching, sports development, fitness, performance and related sporting environments.
