Sheffield Hallam University - Collegiate
What you will study
The International Year Zero in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a supportive pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology degree. The programme combines foundational health and life science knowledge with the academic and transferable skills required for successful undergraduate study. Students develop an understanding of relevant scientific and healthcare concepts while strengthening their abilities in academic writing, research, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, numeracy and independent learning. The programme also helps students adapt to the UK higher education environment and understand university teaching, learning and assessment expectations. Through structured learning and academic support, students can develop confidence and prepare for progression into professional healthcare education. Successful completion of the International Year Zero and meeting the required progression conditions enables students to continue to the BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology degree. The undergraduate programme can provide opportunities to explore cancer care, radiotherapy treatment, patient wellbeing, clinical practice, safety and professional healthcare responsibilities. Students can develop an understanding of how radiotherapy contributes to cancer treatment while learning the importance of compassionate patient care, communication and teamwork. This pathway is suitable for international students interested in medical science, cancer treatment and healthcare technology who want additional academic preparation before beginning undergraduate radiotherapy and oncology studies and pursuing future professional opportunities in healthcare.
