Canterbury Christ Church University

What you will study

The course will open students' eyes to different aspects of photography and help them understand images from a fresh perspective. From developing practical photographic skills to exploring visual research, this specialist course will enable them to understand and appreciate photography as a means of communication and creative expression.

Students will develop their individual and collective abilities, both creatively and technically, to a high level with the support of academic experts in the field.

The experienced and inspiring team will help students to identify their own interests in photography and enable them to make the most of their creative practice. They'll share their research insights and professional practice so that they are exposed to current and relevant photographic skills and knowledge.

The course is taught within professional facilities including specialist digital imaging and film processing suites and well-equipped studios. Students will learn how to edit and print their work both in a darkroom and using digital printing methods. Students will also benefit from receiving technical support to enable them use a variety of cameras, in a range of camera formats, including latest digital cameras.

There will be regular field trips, exhibition and gallery based sessions. The University also welcome visiting professionals to talk about their experience of working in the creative industries. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on the integration of practice and theory. All modules are designed to develop students' awareness of supporting theoretical concepts, which inform their own practice and encourage students to explore areas of specialism as they progress from Year 1 to an increasingly individualised programme of study in Year 3.
