What you will study
The BA (Hons) Game Design degree is designed to develop the creative and technical skills required to design engaging and immersive gaming experiences. The course focuses on key areas such as game narratives, mechanics, and world-building, providing a balanced approach that combines artistic vision with technical proficiency.
Students have access to industry-standard tools and software, supported by dedicated design laboratories equipped with high-performance computers and leading applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Maya, and ZBrush. This environment enables practical, hands-on learning aligned with current industry practices.
The programme is enhanced through engagement with industry professionals, including workshops, guest lectures, and collaborative activities that provide insight into the game design process. These experiences also support networking opportunities and professional development.
Throughout the course, students develop the skills needed to create interactive and innovative game content, preparing them for careers within the games industry and related creative sectors.
An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
The degree equips graduates with the creative, technical, and professional skills required to pursue careers in game design and interactive media.
