Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Software Engineering with Foundation Year (I301)

Canterbury Christ Church University

What you will study

A foundation year helps students develop the study skills and self-confidence needed for higher education when they do not meet the entry requirements for their chosen subject.

Software engineering is a fast-moving and exciting field of study that presents challenges in engineering high-quality, secure, and reliable software systems across a wide range of areas, including medicine, education, space flight, manufacturing, and beyond.

This dynamic course will develop students' skills in analysis, design, programming, testing, and evaluation. They will learn to produce secure, high-quality, usable, and adaptable software systems. The degree will also enhance their capabilities to create software solutions, ensuring they possess all the necessary skills to flourish in their careers.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their technical and personal skills by working on a variety of interesting and challenging assessments. The course is highly practical, offering numerous opportunities to engage with people and organizations involved in software development, including options for work experience to supplement their studies.

The university is one of only a handful in the UK to offer the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate) international engineering education model developed by MIT, which allows students to learn in a practical, hands-on manner to tackle real-life problems.

The university recognizes that employers are looking for dynamic, open-minded graduates who can adapt, innovate, and collaborate. Therefore, a new approach to teaching and learning has been designed to ensure that students are work-ready upon graduation. The 2026 course will reflect this new approach, with the course page set to go live shortly.
