Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Computer Networks and Security

The BSc (Hons) Computer Networks and Security degree is designed to address the growing importance of cyber security and secure communication technologies in today’s digital society. The course focuses on the practical needs of organisations, preparing students for careers in network engineering and cyber security.

Delivered through a practice-led approach, the programme makes use of industry-standard equipment and tools to develop the technical skills required by employers. This hands-on learning is supported by a strong theoretical foundation, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of computing, networking, and security technologies.

Students study a broad curriculum that includes computer network engineering, programming, server systems, and both the theory and practice of cyber security. The course also develops professional skills such as project and change management, enhancing career readiness.

There are opportunities to gain additional industry-recognised certifications from organisations such as Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Palo Alto, and the Linux Professional Institute. The university also hosts academy centres for leading technology providers, supporting access to professional resources and training.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
