Bar Training Course: (LLM)
Cardiff University - Cathays Park
What you will study
The LLM Bar Training Course offers an intensive, postgraduate-level program for individuals who aspire to become barristers and wish to pursue research at the Master's level. This course is typically taken after completing undergraduate studies and before engaging in work-based learning, known as pupillage.
The program equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge of procedure and evidence to meet the criteria set by the Bar Standards Board (BSB), as outlined in their Professional Statement for Barristers.
The primary objective of our program is to cultivate a professional and ethical approach to practicing as a barrister. Additionally, it provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the daily work and challenges faced by legal professionals in today's world.
Classes are generally scheduled from Monday to Thursday, allowing ample time for personal study. Advocacy and conferencing sessions are conducted intensively in two-hour intervals, with no more than six students per session. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue a specialized advocacy option.
Furthermore, students will be given the chance to undertake the BSB centrally set assessments in December, April, and August during their academic year of enrollment.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to be called to the Bar of England and Wales, provided they fulfill the qualifying session requirement of their Inn of Court.
