Overview

The one-year programme explores the science and clinical practice of implantology, offering students the clinical skills and experience needed to perform contemporary implant practice, including bone and soft-tissue grafting.

Course Structure and Taught Modules In the first part of the course, students explore taught modules in research methodologies, cellular and molecular biology, and restorative dentistry. The clinical implantology module runs throughout the year, providing students with the opportunity to treat patients. Instruction is delivered by supportive, inspiring academics and clinicians who are leaders in their respective fields.

During the second half of the course, students undertake a clinical or laboratory-based research project in an area of interest. This project helps them develop skills in collecting, analysing, interpreting, and reporting research findings. Several previous student projects have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Scientific Translational Medicine and Nature Biofilms and Microbiome.

Clinical Exposure Thanks to the programme's strong relationship with the NHS and its home in a working Dental Hospital, students gain clinical exposure within their first month. They will manage patients requiring fixed and removable implant-retained prostheses under expert supervision in a supportive clinical environment.

Graduate Outcomes Graduates of this programme are equipped with the clinical skills and knowledge required to deliver the best possible care to their patients and achieve their professional goals.
