Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Software Engineering

The Software Engineering degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to design, develop, and manage complex software systems.

The course provides practical experience with the models, techniques, and tools that underpin modern software development and innovation. Alongside technical learning, it addresses key professional considerations such as user needs, organisational contexts, cyber security, and computer ethics, as well as emerging areas including machine learning and cloud-based data storage.

Students develop core competencies in software design, programming, artificial intelligence, data structures, and algorithms, preparing them for a wide range of careers within the computing sector. Potential career paths include roles such as applications developer, full stack developer, software engineer, site reliability engineer, and game developer.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
