Master of Science - Town Planning

University of Brighton - Moulsecoomb

What you will study

The course on sustainable coastal communities with a focus on climate change and flood risk is highly relevant to the current times and location. Students will gain the understanding, skills, and experience needed to practice as professional town and country planners or surveyors.

The course combines theory and practice to teach students how to think and act both locally and globally, and how to apply their knowledge in real-world situations.

Students will learn to critically evaluate how urban development is regulated to achieve the best social, economic, and environmental outcomes by exploring the issues that impact the built environment.

This dual-accredited course by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is the only RTPI and RICS-accredited course on the south coast. The program benefits from direct engagement with various organizations, agencies, local authorities, the UK government, and EU advisory bodies.

The program emphasizes critical thinking, community engagement, partnership building, and leadership. It is taught in a picturesque location by the sea, near the South Downs National Park, and within a 180-degree catchment area. An optional but recommended international study visit is offered each year, with past visits to the Netherlands or France.
