Bachelor of Science - Nutrition and Dietetics

The mission of the Nutrition & Dietetics (NTN) program at Murray State University is to prepare future food and nutrition professionals possessing strong skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and oral and written communication. For those students in the dietetics track, it is further the mission of the Nutrition & Dietetics program to prepare graduates for successful entry into an accredited Dietetic Internship. Graduates of the Nutrition & Dietetics program at Murray State University will be leaders and innovators in their respective disciplines.

Nutrition and Foods Track

The Nutrition and Foods track curriculum offers preparation for a variety of career possibilities in food and nutrition.

The nutrition and foods track provides a broad education in nutrition and food production. This track allows a student to choose supporting electives in an area where the nutrition knowledge may be applied or to choose electives leading to a minor.

Dietetics Track

Dietitians are known as the food and nutrition experts. A degree in dietetics will prepare graduates for many career directions and opportunities. Dietitians are able to use their skills to help individuals achieve better health with nutritional intervention.

The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at Murray State University is to prepare graduates for successful entry into a dietetic internship and for roles as nutrition and food experts in their communities. The program encourages critical thinking, effective communication, cultural competency, and a commitment to lifelong learning through evidence-based practices, innovative education, and experiential learning.

Please note: All students interested in pursuing an education in dietetics are admitted to the university in the Nutrition and Foods track until they have met the admissions criteria for the DPD at Murray State. Upon meeting the DPD admissions criteria, students are formally switched to the Dietetics Track.
