Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology

Birmingham City University (BCU)

What you will study

This Psychology degree offers a flexible approach to study, allowing students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. A range of optional modules is available, including topics such as parapsychology, cyberpsychology, and infancy, enabling students to explore specialised areas of the subject.

The course encourages students to examine psychology from multiple perspectives, combining scientific approaches to understanding the mind and brain with opportunities to personalise their studies through module choice.

Students explore core areas of psychology, including cognitive, developmental, social, and biological psychology. Key topics such as memory, emotion, personality, mental health, and relationships are examined to develop an understanding of human behaviour and the factors that influence how people think, learn, and interact.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, providing an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a relevant professional setting. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.

The programme equips graduates with scientific knowledge, analytical skills, and practical experience, preparing them for a range of careers or further study in psychology and related fields.
